My Papa's
band the juke joint hand-me-downs is over practicing for a gig they have on New
Year's Eve. My Papa is involved in several local bands, but this is by far one
of my favorites. They play a lot of covers as well as a mixture of original
tunes. They were recently nominated for two Jammy awards, one for best
Americana album and best engineering. I was blown away by the one for best
engineering when I found out that bass player Tim Foley did the entire thing on
Garage Band.
My favorite
cover that they do is Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. I think it's one of the
only songs that I know all the words to. My mom and I love their second CD
because all of the songs are so danceable. The band recently played a gig at a
local moose lodge. Mom and I got out on the dance floor and by around until we
were both dizzy. We are still the two dry hand-me-down biggest fans. In fact,
for Christmas we got red Juke Joint T-Shirts. As while as mugs, actually they
are only two mugs but I'm thinking about asking for one for my birthday.
I am so
glad that my mom talked him into joining, it was one of the best moves he
could've made. Now the band wives feel more like family to me than anything
else, there is a real sense of community there.
