The Longest Ride pages 1 through 12

I have recently started reading Nicholas Sparks’ latest novel The Longest Ride. As far as I can tell, this novel is written from the perspective of different characters. In the first chapter, we meet Ira. I believe he is in his early hundreds. He spends much of the first few pages talking about the close relationship he had with his father. What I liked most about this particular section was that it showed how human Ira was. He is an elderly man who was shaped by the guidance of his parents and the love of his wife. Of the only part I didn't particularly care for was the appearance of Ira's late wife. It seems to me that Sparks used this premise in his last few novels but I can be certain. One of the things that I enjoyed most about this first chapter was the amount of history that was involved in it. It seemed slightly reminiscent of Nicholas Sparks’ first big novel The Notebook. I didn't get through his last novel so I planned on doing a series of blogs about...

Juke Joint Practice

My Papa's band the juke joint hand-me-downs is over practicing for a gig they have on New Year's Eve. My Papa is involved in several local bands, but this is by far one of my favorites. They play a lot of covers as well as a mixture of original tunes. They were recently nominated for two Jammy awards, one for best Americana album and best engineering. I was blown away by the one for best engineering when I found out that bass player Tim Foley did the entire thing on Garage Band. My favorite cover that they do is Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. I think it's one of the only songs that I know all the words to. My mom and I love their second CD because all of the songs are so danceable. The band recently played a gig at a local moose lodge. Mom and I got out on the dance floor and by around until we were both dizzy. We are still the two dry hand-me-down biggest fans. In fact, for Christmas we got red Juke Joint T-Shirts. As while as mugs, actually they are only two ...

Drums

They were a project that took most of the summer to complete. They were made for about 400 little attendees the Wheatland Music Festival. They were made of wood and spray painted coffee cans. The building process is something still that I can’t rap my mind around. I have the mind of a writer not a engineer like my Papa. I would ask him about it for this blog but he taking a post celebratory nap. My contribution to this endeavor was to pick the colors of the paint cans with the help of my mom. When something looked shitty, we would shout out orders like, “ Add dots.” “purple fixes everything.” Even though I'm 26 years old, I still took pleasure in picking out my very own Wheatland drum. It has purple, turquoise and pink stripes that go all the way around the can. It sits proudly atop my headboard. The coolest part about the Wheatland drama in my opinion, is of the lid. It is comprised of a melted 2 leader. I don't really understand how it works but my Papa and others we...

What I know about me know

What I know about me now I am very proud of the H my name. My favorite color has always been and will always be purple. I like to wear fuzzy socks to bed. I slept with a binky from the age of like three till 26 1/2. I am considering retiring the thing because my mother got me a very soft cuddly purple throw blankets for Christmas. She heard me say all this yesterday, and is probably thinking that it's the best nine dollars that she ever spent at Big Lots. My favorite day is June 6. My favorite season is spring. My favorite meal is a hamburger with just ketchup and an order of French fries. Although I would say that my taste buds are changing because of recent events. My favorite dessert is plain vanilla Hudsonville ice cream with Hershey's chocolate syrup on top. This reminds me of spending the night at my grandpa and grandma's house. My best friend is my mom. I want to make her proud with everything that I do and say. My favorite singer is Taylor Sw...
