A birthday letter

Dear grandpa McGladdery, Today would have been your eighty-eighth birthday. Words can't begin to express how much I miss you and wish that you were still here. I miss the way that we used to talk together almost every day on the telephone. I miss the stories you used to tell, you always had such a way with words. I miss the smell of your house as I rolled in the door. I miss the way you used to offer me snacks like cherry cordial ice cream every time I came over. I miss the way you used to have the television turned out way too loud. I miss the way you used to poke fun at me about not paying my taxes. I miss the barbecues we used to have with the neighbors in the vacant lot. I miss the way used to slip me mad money just before I left   on a vacation. There are certain things that I'm glad you're not around for, like my dad's recent troubles. I know that the whole experience would have just upset you.
