Dear Reader, Because of the holiday festivities, I temporarily stopped posting to this blog. Now, that I have decided to get back on track I realized that I must start over from day one with my original writing exercise. Hopefully I will not have to many more distractions like this one. I really do want to complete the full 21 days in their entirety. Please bear with me and remember, positive encouragement is always welcome Today I saw a bowl filled with Brownie pieces covered with two scoops of Hudsonville then no ice cream and drizzled with Hershey's chocolate. Today I saw the barren tree outside my window, sway in the wind like a belly dancer. Yesterday, I saw three charmed sisters do battle with a thorn-faced daemon and prevail, It sounded like a chant. If you looked inside me you would see someone with writer's block.

Today I saw my taco explode after just one bite, all of it falling onto the plate in a heap of cheese, meat and lettuce. Yesterday I saw all three parts of the same Christmas movie at different times. It sounded like a mixture of infomercials and jingle bells. If you looked inside me you would see someone who is self-conscious and insecure, even after 27 years on this planet The five things I saw that no one else saw The inside of my eyelids The lint on my dress The game boards on my bed. Today I saw album cover after album cover, giving into my Pandora addiction. Unable to stop giving the thumbs up or thumbs down. Hoping to hear the song I truly want to listen to. Yesterday I saw an old friend sitting at the dinner table. She is comfortable she feels like family… Like home. It sounded like the familiar ring of her telephone or the echo of her laugh. If you lived inside of me you would see someone who wants to cherish every moment. I am afraid that I will forget something significant and important. I memorize faces, sounds and the movements of people that feel like they belong to me and no one else. The most beautiful, terrible thing is the unfinished project that lies on my bed. The beauty is in the initial effort. What is terrible is the wasted potential to do something more constructive than what I am. Today I saw a woman with four chins lying on the People's Court. I didn't think anyone was breave enough to wear a duster in public, but I guess she was. yesterday I saw a Christmas tree with blue, yellow and green ornaments on it. It sounded like something right out of the nut cracker. If you looked inside of me you would see someone full of Christmas cookies and hope for the future. The most beautiful, terrible thing is when a child stops believing in Santa. It is a loss of innocence and a right of passage all at the same time. The five things I saw that no one else saw The layer of dust on my copies of the amazing Spiderman DVDs. The turquoise threads in the hat that I bought this summer. The drop of milk on my DVD remote The Tybee possibly poisonous spider that landed on my arm, it is the first one I have ever killed. The box of pair – applesauce that sits in my room.

Today I saw myself in a negative light. I responded to someone that I love in their rude manner and afterwards I felt guilty. I took what they had said the wrong way. Yesterday I saw rain droplets dripping on the door leading from my bedroom to the deck. They reminded me of human tears. They reminded me of condensation that forms on glass of Kool-Aid on hot summer day. It sounded like the dripping facet in the family bathroom after somebody is finished brushing their teeth. If you looked inside me you would see someone who has been truly humbled and does worry too much from time to time.  The most terrible, beautiful thing is the way you remember someone after they passed. You have a tendency to forget  all their negative traits and over accentuating the positive ones. I think that is why artists and singers become substantially more famous after they passed away. Today I saw a man who bore a remarkable resemblance to Santa Claus call his son out on national television. They were on Doctor Phil over some type of financial dispute. Yesterday I saw the detectives of TNT's Major Crimes try and almost fail to solve a drive-by shooting. I can't get the image of the victim out of my mind. his knees covered in his own blood, his eyes closed as if sleeping. If it has sound it would have been a mother's anguished cries and a father's shout of despair If you lived inside me you would see someone who is craving a soft batch chocolate chip cookie complete with M&Ms. They remind me of childhood and a simpler time. The most beautiful, terrible thing is the end of a good song, when the last echoes of the singer's voice leaves your ears. I know that it's been quite a while since I last wrote. The problem was I lacked the time to write a daily or weekly blog post and plus I didn't think I had anything truly worthwhile to say. This past semester however, that all changed. My introductory portrait class was visited by author Angie Cruz. During her craft talk she challenged us to complete a writing exercise. She told us to get out a pen and paper and answer a series of questions, writing without stopping for approximately 2 minutes for each question. Then, after we were finished she challenged us to repeat this exercise for 21 days. She said that if we were truly serious writers, that this exercise would help open up our imaginations. The day after I attended this craft talk I tried to complete the exercise and my attempt lasted only two days. Dear grandpa McGladdery, Today would have been your eighty-eighth birthday. Words can't begin to express how much I miss you and wish that you were still here. I miss the way that we used to talk together almost every day on the telephone. I miss the stories you used to tell, you always had such a way with words. I miss the smell of your house as I rolled in the door. I miss the way you used to offer me snacks like cherry cordial ice cream every time I came over. I miss the way you used to have the television turned out way too loud. I miss the way you used to poke fun at me about not paying my taxes.
