I had a professor in the semester who insisted that we write 200 words a day on two separate occasions during the semester. We complained, of course. He told us that it may seem like a hassle now but it may help get our creative juices flowing. I too, complained that first. However, by the end of the experience I truly enjoyed it and had a lot of great story ideas to show for it. As far as my writing goes, my creative juices need a little help flowing, especially during the summer when there is no one there to impose deadlines or to tell me what to write.
